- Air Handler Replacement
Project Overview
UW Hospital & Clinics in Madison replaced the air handling unit serving Surgical Operating Rooms 1–6. Masters worked with the hospital on a custom Haakon replacement shaped around existing connections, operating-room air quality and maintenance access.
The Challenge
Supply and return connections had to remain at the same end of the unit, with access to equipment and piping below. The rooftop installation also needed protection against Wisconsin snow, while fan efficiency, redundancy and filtration remained central operating priorities.
Masters Solution
Masters supplied Haakon custom air handling with a fan array configuration and carbon and HEPA filtration. The fan arrangement addresses efficiency and redundancy, while the filtration package supports the operating rooms’ air-quality requirements. A central service corridor, access hatch and custom snow-resistant intake address the site’s maintenance and weather constraints. Factory-built sections were lifted to the roof and assembled on site, followed by air-leakage and HEPA-filter testing. The result is a replacement tailored to the hospital’s physical connections and service needs.
